Here are some of the benefits of a new metal roof for your home or business.
Energy savings
Aesthetic appeal
Interlocking panels provide top performance in weather events
Protection for your home
Longevity
Environmentally sustainable
Why should you consider a metal roof for your residential or commercial roofing project?
In a word, durability. When installed correctly, metal roofs can sustain wind gusts up to 140 miles per hour, will not corrode or crack, and can offer impact-resistant*. In addition, metal roofs don't need the periodic costly maintenance that other roofing materials often require.
*Durability varies by the metal roofing product installed and the quality of the roofing contractor you use. RA Construction and Roofing can help you choose the best metal roofing option for your home or business.
Five Metal Roofing Myths
Metal roofing has gone through a lot of changes in the last couple of decades. Because of that, you might have some preconceived ideas about metal roofing. Allow RA Construction and Roofing to set the record straight.
Myth 1 - A metal roof will increase the likelihood of a lightning strike. Yes, metal conducts electricity, but electricity is not drawn to metal roofing.
Myth 2 - Metal roofs are noisy in the rain. Not true, they may even be quieter than other roof types. The sound of rain on a metal roof is usually quite different from what people envision, it produces a “rumble” sound like an asphalt roof, not a “tinny” sound. The folds and bends in the metal actually help to break up the sound. If you are extra sensitive to noise steps can be taken when installed to keep your metal roof extra quiet.
Myth 3 - Metal roofs are susceptible to damage by hail. While extremely large hailstones can dent a metal roof, normal hailstorms will not. Large hailstones can severely damage an asphalt roof.
Myth 4 - You cannot walk on a metal roof. You can, however, you have to know how to do it properly so you do not cause damage. Your roofer will show you how to walk on your metal roof.
Myth 5 - A metal roof will make your house colder in winter. A metal roof has no effect on the temperature of the typical vented attic in winter. It’s the insulation under (or on top of) the floor of your attic that affects the temperature of your home.
Five things to know about metal roofing
Longer install time and higher cost compared to a standard shingle. Metal roofs are carefully flashed to meet your unique roof configuration. This can increase the installation time compared to a standard shingle that relies on sealants to be waterproof. However, due to the longer durability, the cost-benefit overtime should be lower.
Better for the environment. Depending on the metal roof product you choose and high-quality metal roof will have between 30 and 95% recycled materials AND at the end of its life, a metal roof should be 100% recyclable!
Fire resistance. Metal roofs provide lasting resistance to airborne embers, helping to protect your home from wildfires.
Low roof maintenance costs. Metal roofing does not degrade the way that standard shingles do. A properly installed, high-quality, metal roof reduces the need for unexpected roof repairs and maintenance.
Get ready for increased curb appeal. High-quality metal roofing has super visibility. Be ready for neighbors and people passing by to ask you questions about your beautiful new roof!
